The drawing-lot ceremony for the 32nd SEA Games National Football Tournament, which will be hosted by Cambodia, was held on 5 April, and Myanmar national men’s football team went into Group A.
All 10 Southeast Asian countries will participate in the SEA Games men’s football tourney, except for Brunei, and it will be divided into two groups of five teams.
Myanmar is included in the Group A with host Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Timor Leste, while defending champion Viet Nam is placed in Group B with Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Laos.
Team Myanmar has a better chance to advance to the semi-finals according to the group position, as Myanmar’s main competitors are host Cambodia and team Indonesia.
Group B is tighter than Group A as the current champion Viet Nam, ASEAN powerhouse Thai and Malaysian teams are expected to compete for the semi-finals.
The Myanmar team was eliminated from the group stage in the last Viet Nam SEA Games.
The Myanmar U-22 team has been taking training for the SEA Games since the last week of March, and is preparing for training with 36 preliminary players.
The team is handled by Germany’s Michael Feichtenbeineras as the head coach. —Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
