A claim that a Tatmadaw column threatened and demandedmoney from residents of Launglon township in Taninthayi region is not true, the State Administration Council clarified in its statement on 2 December.

As false news were circulating on social media that a Tatmadaw column had entered Kavee Ngapin village of Launglon township, Taninthayi region, on the morning of 30 November, arresting locals, inspecting and fining unlicensed motorcycles, and intruding into local houses to seize valuable goods and animals, it had to make a clarification, the statement said.

“There were no activities like the advance of military columns or conduct of field operations duties in or near Kavee Ngapin village, Launglon township on 30 November,” it stated, quotinga local security official.

By drawing biased and one-sided conclusions from any piece of information, malicious pro-terrorist media have created andspread fake news to confuse the public with misconceptions, the statement added.
