Trade Dept allows exports of only agricultural produce, fisheries at Sittway border

Only Agricultural produce and fisheries will be allowed for export via Sittway border, the Trade Department under the Ministry of Commerce.
This action is to ensure systematic border trade with Bangladesh and promote trade, according to the news bulletin 15/2023 released on 1 September. It came into effect starting from 4 September, the Trade Department notified.
The agro produce and fisheries include rice and broken rice, various pulses, sesame, peanut, onion and freshwater and saltwater fish.
The value of trade via Sittway and Maungtaw border with neighbouring country Bangladesh amounted to US$6.954 million as of 25 August in the current financial year 2023-2024 beginning 1 April, comprising exports worth $6.018 million and imports worth $0.936 million.
Maungtaw border pocketed $4.636 million of trade, with exports worth $4.533 million and imports worth $0.103 million. Similarly, Sittway border bagged $2.318 million of trade including exports valued at $1.485 million and imports valued at $0.833 million. — NN/EM
