U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs attends Special ASEAN-Russia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Minister for Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the Special ASEAN-Russia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting which was held via video conference on 6 July 2021. The meeting was co-chaired by Retno Marsudi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and was attended by Foreign Ministers from the ASEAN Member States and the Secretary-General of ASEAN.
At the Meeting, ASEAN Foreign Ministers exchanged views on combatting COVID-19, post-pandemic recovery, regional architecture in the Asia-Pacific and Russia’s proposal on the convening of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit.
During the meeting, Union Minister explained Myanmar’s precautionary measures for COVID-19, including a vaccination programme in Myanmar.

The Union Minister then underscored the need to enhance green recovery efforts in line with the sustainable development goals in intensifying the collective efforts for economic recovery through Tourism recovery.
He also highlighted that the threat of ICT related security issues should be tackled by further enhancing cooperation. He also emphasized the need to reinforce cooperation between Southeast Asia and Indian Ocean Countries with a view to upholding ASEAN centrality in evolving regional architecture.
With regard to developments in Myanmar, Union Minister apprised the meeting that the Five-Point Roadmap laid down by the State Administration Council is the future plan to reinstate democracy in Myanmar in accordance with the State Constitution 2008. —MNA
