14th ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Rural Development, Poverty Eradication held

The 14th ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication was chaired by the Philippines yesterday by the videoconferencing system.
A delegation led by Director General of the Department of Rural Development of Myanmar U Thein Lwin and senior officials from 10 ASEAN member countries and ASEAN + 3 partner countries: China, Japan and the Republic of Korea and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat attended the virtual meeting.
Senior officials from the Philippines, China, Japan and South Korea delivered speeches during the meeting.
Afterwards, senior officials from the ASEAN Member States discussed the theme of the meeting: “Accelerating Recovery and Strengthening Resiliency of ASEAN for Sustainable Rural Development and Poverty Eradication” and also focused on the future plan.
The Director-General of the Department of Rural Development said that Myanmar is making great efforts to achieve rural development goals by implementing poverty alleviation measures to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
“Emphasis is being placed on narrowing the development gap between regions and states, and at the same time prioritizing national development strategies for balanced economic development and accelerating poverty alleviation is essential,” the Director-General said.
“Myanmar’s economy was affected by COVID-19 epidemic and the Myanmar Economic Recovery Plan (MERP) is being drawn up to revitalize society and create a viable business environment for the long-term development of the people as a whole.
“The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is committed to the inclusion of women and youths in the inclusive digital economy and digital transformation pathways in developing resilient strategic plans for sustainable economic development,” the Director-General added.
It was also discussed that Myanmar will fully participate in the ASEAN Regional Response and Sustainable Process.
After that, senior officials from three ASEAN regional partners: China, Japan and the Republic of Korea discussed further cooperation on projects proposed by ASEAN countries in the ASEAN Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation Framework Plan (2021-2025). — MNA
