2019 Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Awards handed to nation’s writers

The 2019 Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Awards, Scholarships and Pakokku U Ohn Pe Library Book Awards giving ceremony was held at the meeting hall of the Printing and Publishing Department (PPD) on Theinbyu Road, Yangon, yesterday morning.
Firstly, PPD Director-General U Win Kyaw Aung and Chairman of Myanmar Writers Association (MWA) U Kyaw Win (Manoktha Kyaw Win), who is also Chairman of the Pakokku Literary Award Fund Management Committee, respectively delivered opening remarks.

Then, U Kyaw Win conferred the Pakokku Lifetime Literary Award to Sayama Gyi Daw Kywal Kywal (Ma Kywal Kywal). U Win Kyaw Aung handed out 2019 Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Awards, Scholarships and Pakokku U Ohn Pe Library Book Awards to U Ohn Maung (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe), advisor to MoI, fund management committee members Maung Nyein Thu (Gyobingauk), U Myo Tun (Maung Sein Naung-Lewe), U Aung Than Oo (Pathein Aung Than Oo), U Soe Myint (Soe Hmoo), Dr Tin Aung Shwe (Research) and U Myat Soe (Myat Soe Hlaing).
Next, Pakokku Lifetime Literary Award winner Sayama Gyi Daw Kywal Kywal (Ma Kywal Kywal) expressed words of thanks on behalf of other award winners.
The officials gave one lifetime literary award, 12 prizes in five categories like a collection of poems, novels, short stories, treatise and research after reviewing 82 artworks, 3 Pakokku U Ohn Pe Library Book Awards and 2 National University of Arts and Culture’s Awards.
The Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Award was established in 1992 by U Ohn Pe, who donated K7.6 million to the country as award funds. Moreover, the ceremony is held yearly, and this time is its 27th literary award ceremony. — MNA
