The 2024 Myanmar-China Media Tea Party took place at the Governor’s Residence in Dagon Township, Yangon Region, on 24 January 2024. The event was attended by Mr Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, along with the economic and commercial and cultural counsellors, embassy staff, and representatives from both Chinese and Myanmar media outlets. Mr Zheng Zhihong delivered the opening speech.
Following Mr Zheng Zhihong’s address, the economic and commercial and cultural counsellors elaborated on the ongoing projects and collaborations between Myanmar and China in religious, cultural affairs, and economic development.
Media outlets such as the Northern Star Media, PaukPhaw, One News Myanmar, and The Global New Light of Myanmar raised questions related to armed conflicts in the north-eastern part of Myanmar, China’s assistance for border stability, the reopening of trade channels between the two countries, and the dissemination of accurate information to counter misinformation and fake news.
In response to the queries, Minister Counsellor Mr Zheng Zhihong emphasized that Myanmar is a crucial and friendly nation to China. He conveyed that both the Chinese Government and its people are keen to witness Myanmar’s rapid development after restoring national stability. Mr Zheng Zhihong stated that China is collaborating with the Myanmar government to ensure stability in border areas, resume bilateral border trade as soon as possible, and continue providing necessary assistance for Myanmar’s development.
Representatives from media outlets in both countries engaged in constructive discussions and exchanged opinions during the event. — ASH/ TMT
