550 firefighters extinguish Grand Royal factory fire

A total of 550 firefighters including 60 fire engines, 450 fire brigade members and 100 auxiliary members extinguished a level-3 fire that broke out at Grand Royal Distillery in Hmawby Township of Yangon Region, according to Myanmar Fire Services Department.
The department released a statement that they put out the fire at 7 am on 14 January and kept extinguishing the fire residues until yesterday noon.
Three tanks with a capacity of 50,000 gallons RF 96 per cent liquor, six tanks with a capacity of 20,000 gallons RF 50 per cent liquor and three storages were engulfed by fire. The injured people were sent to Insein General Hospital. There was a total of 20 wounded people including 14 fire brigade members, one resident and five members of the social welfare organization, said Director U Thein Tun Oo of Myanmar Fire Services Department.
The cause of the fire and losses are under investigation.
In 2022, 1,507 fires broke out resulting in 96 casualties and 139 injuries across the nation while 224 fires broke out in Yangon Region with seven deaths and 22 injuries. – TWA/KTZH
