26 mln fingerlings to be added into lakes, reservoir in Yangon Region this rainy season

The 250,000 young fish are added into the Nga Moe Yeik reservoir yesterday.

A total of 26 million fingerlings are projected to be added into ponds, lakes and reservoirs in Yangon Region during the rainy season, according to the chairman of the Yangon Region Administration Council.
“This effort aims to effectuate sustainable development in aquaculture in order to enhance the socio-economy of the people living in rural sites of the region. It would boost the country’s economic growth. It can also manage fish and prawn population amid overfishing,” he pointed out when addressing at the ceremony of adding fish into Nga Moe Yeik reservoir on 15 May.
The chairman, accompanied by the council members and officials concerned from the respective departments, put 100,000 rohus (two-inches sized), 100,000 Barbus fish and 50,000 common carp into the Nga Moe Yeik reservoir at the ceremony.
Chairman U Hla Soe of the Yangon Region Administration Council, the council members and officials concerned also attended the event of Yangon city water supply projects through Nga Moe Yeik reservoir in Hlegu Township on 15 May.
At the event, U Myint Zaw Than, head of Yangon City Development Committee’s Engineering Department (water and sanitation), elaborated Nga Moe Yeik Water Supply Project for Yangon city. U Kyaw Naing Oo, director of the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, explained the coordination between the departments. Moreover, Dr Zaw Win, a member of YCDC, added further water resilience projects for water security in the region to meet the needs of the growing population.
