Union Minister for NREC meets Ayeyawady Region Administration Council Chairman, members

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi held a discussion with Ayeyawady Region Administration Council Chairman, council members and departmental officials in Ayeyawady Region yesterday.
The Union Minister and officials discussed 2021 monsoon tree-planting programmes, firewood plantation, mangrove forest conservation and plantation, national-level waste management programmes and other cooperation work between the ministry and the region administration council.
During the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted the forest coverage areas in Ayeyawady Region in previous years, climate changes, biodiversity losses and damage to ecosystem due to deforestation.
He then said it should reduce the natural resources exploration rate and establish firewood forest, conserve mangrove in coastal regions as a national duty in accordance with the instructions of State Administration Council Chairman.
Then, the region administration council chairman and officials of relevant departments clarified land area for firewood plantation, tree-planting programmes and other work plans.
The Union Minister and party inspected the Thalatkhwa forest reserve in Pathein Township and commercial plantation of ironwood tree for 2021 monsoon. — MNA
