Over 36 % of population in Lashio vaccinated against COVID-19

The second dose of COVID-19 vaccines are being administrated in Lashio, Shan State (North) starting from 6 August, it is learnt, Shan State (North) has received its second 15,200 doses of China’s Sinopharm vaccine. These vaccines will be administered to 30,400 people approximately. Lashio township received 1,800 doses of its ongoing Sinopharm vaccine. This translates to vaccination for approximately 3,600 residents. As the injection is completed this time, it will cover 36.19 per cent of the population that needs to be vaccinated, according to the office data of Lashio Township Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19.
The elderly people at over 65, the government staff, private health staff and the volunteers are given the second dose of COVID-19 at Lashio township hospital while the civil service personnel and its family members and, bank staff are administered at No 4 high school in Lashio.
The employees from private factories, companies, hotels, motels and guests have been vaccinated in Shwe Kyei (Golden Star) hall in ward-7 while the staffs from markets, supermarkets and private transportation companies are provided the COVID-19 vaccine at No 3 high school in ward-12.
This is a second time that Lashio received the Sinopharm vaccine made in China. On 29 July, Lashio received its first 8,800 does of a COVID-19 vaccine to inoculate 17,600 people. On 5 August, the township accepted another 1,800 does of vaccines to be delivered to 3,600 residents. Around 1.75 million people of 54 million have so far been vaccinated in the country, according to authorities.
After containing the number of COVID-19 cases at the beginning of the pandemic, Myanmar is now struggling with third wave, recording 329,516 cases and 11,776 deaths.—Aye Maung/GNLM
