Take care but don’t be too much afraid of COVID-19

The World Health Organization has notified that there have been five variant viruses of COVID-19 spreading in 193 countries while monitoring a new coronavirus variant known as “Mu”, which was first identified in Colombia in January.
Mu, known scientifically as B.1.621, has been classified as a “variant of interest”, the global health body said recently in its weekly pandemic bulletin. The bulletin mentioned that the Mu variant has a constellation of mutations that indicate potential properties of immune escape.
The WHO said the variant has mutations that indicate a risk of resistance to vaccines and stressed that further studies were needed to better understand it so as to carry out prevention, control and treatment activities for the pandemic.
All viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19, mutate over time and most mutations have little or no effect on the properties of the virus. But certain mutations can impact the properties of a virus and influence how easily it spreads, the severity of the disease it causes, and its resistance to vaccines, drugs and other countermeasures.

At present, persons with the variant virus of COVID-19 are found in Myanmar. The variant virus of COVID-19 is the variant of concern Delta. So, it is necessary to take care of (Variants of Concern) Delta with high infection and severe impacts, with high death rate. It is important to strictly abide by the health guidelines against COVID-19 issued by the Ministry of Health. Moreover, systematic vaccination is also one of the important steps to remarkably decline the infection rate.

Four COVID-19 variants of concern, including Alpha, which is present in 193 countries, and Delta, present in 170 countries. Five variants, including Mu, are to be monitored. After being detected in Colombia, Mu has since been reported in other South American countries and Europe.
Daily newspapers and international news agencies express the current situation of infection of the pandemic to the global peoples on a daily basis. Hence, Myanmar people need to take special care of the infection triggered by variants of COVID-19 but not culture the too much worries and frightening.
