Gov’t to shape Shan State into all-round development of agriculture

The government makes efforts to produce skilled and medium-level agricultural workers and subject specialists, to develop the research sector, to open agricultural training schools and to arrange for the locals to join the agricultural and livestock institutes, said Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo during the meeting with the officials of farming sectors of Shan State yesterday.
The Union Minister inspected the sample corn, fermented soya-bean and edible crops of Aungpan Agriculture Research Station and instructed to grow new crops for commercial purposes and expand the research works based on the market.
Then the Union Minister discussed about the preparations of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department to prevent the silting in Inlay Lake of Shan State, the use of silt scavenged annually in farming sector, production of fertilizer using the collected duckweed, water hyacinth and flotsam and cooperation works between the government and private organizations to expand the tomato and vegetable cultivations in line with the GAP on floating fields.
Similarly, he instructed officials to breed Cyprinus carpio, to swift the tending of animals into feeding system and to use machines from the plating to cultivating of crops, to conduct educating programmes and research, to expand the edible crops and coffee cultivation including the effective use of vacant, fallow and virgin lands. —MNA
