MoH Union Minister tours departments and hospitals in Yangon

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win made an inspection tour to the Department of Medical Research, Yangon Central Midwifery Training School, the Children’s Hospital and the Nursing Training School yesterday in Yangon.
At the meeting with the Director-General of the Department of Medical Research Prof Dr Zaw Than Tun and department officers, the Union Minister said the need to speed up the COVID diagnosis with COVID-19 RT-PCR as well as Gene Sequencing for genetic mutations of the COVID-19. He instructed the officials to coordinate where necessary with the Ministry of Industry for the production of COVID-19 vaccines. He also asked to make arrangements for the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Medical Research Conference.
Afterwards, he met with the Principal, professors and students at the Central Midwifery Training School, and inspected the classrooms and laboratories in the school.
During his visit to the Yangon Children’s Hospital, he met with the Hospital Superintendent, Professors/Medical Specialists, and said the funds required to repair and maintain hospital equipment are being fulfilled. He urged them to make sure there is no shortage of medicines, as well as to assist in vaccinating students of the basic education schools. He called for coordination to constantly provide medical treatment to emergency patients.
After the inspection tour to the Nursing Training School-Yangon, the Union Minister visited the Central Women’s Hospital-Yangon and met with the hospital officials and health care professionals and specialists. The Union Minister expressed words of thanks to the healthcare workers for their efforts to bring health care services back to normal. To strengthen human resources in the health care sector, the Ministry is working on opening nursing training courses and postgraduate medical courses as well as recruiting new assistant doctors, he said.
He urged them to perform necessary surgeries for gynaecological patients as soon as possible and experienced nurses should be arranged to work together in the operating room. He called for a systematic review of the number of specialists/nurses in hospitals in Yangon for obstetrics and gynaecology.
It is reported that Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win also met with department officers of the Yangon Region Public Health Department on the morning of 8 October.—MNA
