Growers enjoy rising price of cold season tomatoes in Ngathayouk

The cold season tomato plantation, which has been grown in the last week of August in Ngathayouk town, Mandalay region has succeeded because of sufficient rainfall this year, said a grower from Byugyi village.
Now, the local growers are making a good profit from their plantations. Although the rain was the mainstay of the early tomato cultivation, later, the farmers reply on dew to grow winter tomatoes. Late monsoon period, the plants get well water.
“This year, the yield of the cold season tomato is much higher than in previous years. The local villagers cultivated both monsoon tomatoes and winter tomatoes. About 0.5 acre of tomato plantation are yielded about 40 or 50 visses per week. The tomato price is ranging between K1,500-K2,000 per viss in the market,” said U Maung Win, the grower of tomatoes from Byugyi village.
Some growers are facing problems with their plants being restored by the infestation. According to the local growers, they are taking care of their plants using fertilizer and pesticides. — Phyo Wai (IPRD)/GNLM
