Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trades under the law.
On 15 February, a combined inspection team under the management of the Rakhine State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted a surprise inspection in Kyaukpyu, An, Thandwe, and Taungup townships, and a total of 12.2686 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K718,837) was seized and action is taken under the Forest Law.
On 17 February, a combined inspection team under the management of the Sagaing Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted a surprise check and seized one Canda 125 motorcycle without a licence (approximately K300,000) in Kanbalu Township, and action is taken under the Import and Export Law.
In addition, a combined inspection team from the Customs Department and the duty inspection team at the Mayanchaung Permanent checkpoint seized a total of various consumer goods and business equipment (estimated at K11,156,000) without any official documents, and the action is taken under the Customs Law.
Similarly, under the management of the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, the Bago Region Forest Department and combined teams reportedly inspected a total of 11.0554 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated value of 1,334,142) in the forest areas of Toungoo and Thayawady districts, and action is taken under the Forest Law.
Next, a combined inspection team of Kayin State conducted a search operation at the Tadakyoe Joint Checkpoint in Kawkareik under the auspices of the Anti-Trafficking Task Force.
Consequently, a total of K4,500,000 worth of consumer goods was seized without any official documentation and are prosecuted under the Customs Law.
As a result, a total of 11 arrests (estimated value of K18,008,979) were made on 15 and 17 February, stated the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
