Myanmar U-19 boys’ football team will take on the Viet Nam team today in the group A match of the AFF U-19 Championship in Indonesia. The team Myanmar match will begin at 2:30 pm (Myanmar Standard Time).
On the other hand, Thailand will play against Brunei at 4:30 pm (Myanmar Standard Time) and host Indonesia will take on the Philippines at 7:30 pm (Myanmar Standard Time).
At the end of the match on 6 July, Viet Nam and Thailand scored seven points each, while the Myanmar team scored six points, and hosts Indonesia earned five points.
Only four of them have a chance to reach the semi-finals, while the Philippines and Brunei, who have lost all three, have said goodbye from the group stage.
Myanmar beat Brunei by seven goals in the first match. They beat the Philippines 3-1 and lost 3-0 to Thailand in the other matches.
The last two matches are important for Myanmar to reach the semi-finals, but the final match against Indonesia will be important only if they can get at least one point in today’s match against Viet Nam. The seven-point bagger Thai team is almost certain to win the match against Brunei, so Myanmar can only hope to advance to the semi-finals if they can get a point from Viet Nam.
If the Myanmar team loses to Viet Nam and the Thai team wins, the Myanmar team will lose the chance to advance to the semi-finals. The Championship is being divided into two groups A and B.
Thailand, Viet Nam, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Brunei Darussalam are involved in Group A while Malaysia, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Cambodia, and Laos teams are placed in Group B. —Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
