Officials check and confiscate illegal timbers.

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Instructed by the Chairman of the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force, an on-duty team made inspections on 24 July at Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint, according to information.
Officials captured K2.1 million worth of car tyres that did not declare in the Import Declaration from a truck heading from Myawady to Yangon and K10.8 million worth of 1,200 bags of poly aluminium chloride that were different from the Import Declaration (ID) from a DongFeng truck (approximately K90 million). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, a Customs on-duty team at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint in Mon State confiscated 720 rice cookers worth K5,328,000 that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a Mitsubishi Fuso 12-wheel truck (approximately K40 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, a team led by the Myanmar Police Force and Forest Department made inspections under the supervision of the Ayeyawady Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force.
They seized a total of 70 tonnes of illegal sawn teak timber worth K21 million in Mawlamyinegyun township and action was taken under the Forest Law.
Afterwards, on 25 July, a total of 2.1804 tonnes of illegal teak and hardwood worth K1,267,220 were captured in the Bago and Thayawady districts under the management of the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force.
Therefore, 11 arrests estimated at K170,495,220 were made on two consecutive days on 24 and 25 July, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
