Myanmar chickpeas fetch good prices in Mandalay market

Due to domestic and international demand, Myanmar chickpeas are fetching good prices in the Mandalay market.
In the Mandalay market, V2, Taiwan chickpeas, V7, 929 and Myanmar chickpeas are marketable in Mandalay.
A bag of V2 bean was priced at K195,000 while Taiwan chickpeas was traded at K178,000 per bag. A bag of 929 chickpeas cost K183,000 and a bag of Myanmar chickpeas K185,000. A bag of foreign export V7 chickpeas costs 210,000 kyats at a good price, U Soe Win Myint, warehouse owner from Mandalay, was quoted as saying.
“Beans belonging to the chickpea group are getting good prices in the Mandalay market. During the peak of March, chickpea prices started from K115,000 to K120,000.
“Currently, chickpea prices reached the highest price of K210,000 as a good price. Chickpea is the favorite of Myanmar people. Myanmar people eat a variety of chickpeas because they are nutritious and good delicacy. It is essential for special classes. Chickpeas are mostly grown for domestic consumption.
“Chickpeas are no longer in the hands of farmers. The chickpeas are now in the hands of the warehouse owners. V7 chickpeas are continuously exported to India. This year, the weather is fine and there is no pest damage, so the chickpea yield is good,” U Soe Win Myint explained.
Myanmar produced chickpeas in Mandalay Region. They are mainly grown in Sagaing Region and Magway Region. As a winter crop, chickpeas are mostly grown for domestic consumption only once a year.—Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-printing House)/GNLM
