Illegal timbers, edible oil, foodstuffs, industrial materials, electronics, auto parts and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
A combined inspection team led by the Forest Department under the supervision of the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted inspections and captured a total of 10.5988 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K3,322,030 in Lewe and Tatkon townships on 14 and 15 October. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, an on-duty team under the management of the Customs Department conducted inspections at the warehouse of Yangon International Airport and nabbed five used laptops – Lenovo Think Pad – worth K2.5 million that were hidden with suitcases and without official documents. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Afterwards, the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint in Mon State confiscated K1.89 million worth of auto parts that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a truck (approximately K40 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
The 16th-Mile Kyaukchaw Checkpoint seized K9 million worth of industrial materials without official documents from a Nissan car (estimated value of K20 million) heading from Mandalay to Mongyai. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 16 October, a combined team confiscated a total of 3,060 litres of edible oil worth K10,200,000, 122 cartons of Lactasoy juice worth K951,600 without official documents from a Higer KLQ6123K car (approximately K30 million) at the Pauktai Bridge Checkpoint of Dawei township and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 17 October, a total of 2.932 tonnes of illegal hardwood worth K733,000 was seized in the Thayawady district and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 11 arrests (estimated value of K118,596,630) were made on four consecutive days from 14 to 17 October, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
