Eight killed as vehicle overturns on Myawady-Kawkareik Asia Highway

A passenger car crashed due to a brake failure on the Myawady-Kawkareik Asia Highway near Tawnaw Waterfall and eight passengers were killed.
On the morning of 9 November, a vehicle leading from Myawady to Kawkareik had a brake failure and was unable to control speed, overturned over the roadblocks and dragged along the Tawnaw Waterfall, and crashed into a concrete plinth and a solar electricity pole.
A member of the Alinthit emergency rescue team said five men including the driver of the vehicle and three women died after getting severe injuries due to the accident.
There were originally seven people who died in the accident, but a woman’s body was also found under the concrete plinth of the Tawnaw Waterfall sign, bringing the total number to eight.
The deceased were the residents of Bago Township and initial information is still in verification.
The Palephyu social relief group has taken the dead bodies to the Kawkareik Public Hospital.
On 10 November, the bodies will be sent to the relevant bereaved families in Bago. — TWA/GNLM
