Mangoes in great quality will fetch attractive prices in the season this year due to the condition of the mango market, Secretary U Kyaw Soe Naing of the Myanmar Mango Market and Technical Development Association (Mandalay) said.
It is known that mango plants have already started to blossom at some mango farms in Mandalay Region, and it will bring favorable opportunities to local mango growers so as to get handsome prices. The export routes to China have also opened up this year as well, and only good quality mangoes will grasp the big market share and good prices in this mango season.
“Within the region, some areas have already experienced mango blossoms, while others have not yet. This year, growers will get wonderful prices for superior mangoes, due to the market position and the export route to China. They could not earn favourable prices last year because of the diseases in mangoes. Uneven blossom rate makes this year’s yield difficult to speculate. By mid-April, good quality mangoes will enter the market and there is a good potential to go for fetching high prices,” he added.
It is reported that it would be more convenient if mango growers maintain the quality of mangoes by working together in groups of five or 10 people from the same region. If the groups are implemented regionally, the quality of mangoes will also improve. — Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-Printing House)/CT
