Myanmar pockets US$25.921 mln from rice exports in 2nd week of January

In the second week of January 2023, 65,330 tonnes of rice and broken rice were exported to foreign countries, earning US$25.921 million, according to the Ministry of Commerce’s data.
During the period from 14 to 20 January, around 32,430 tonnes of rice worth $13.781 million were exported by maritime trade. More than 17,250 ​​tonnes of rice were delivered to Asian countries and over 15,180 tonnes of rice were shipped to EU member countries.
Myanmar exported rice to China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Viet Nam, China Taipei and Singapore in Asian countries, and Spain, Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Croatia in EU member countries.
About 4,120 tonnes of exported rice were transported through the China-Myanmar border and 2,500 tonnes through the Myanmar-Bangladesh border this week, totalling 6,620 tonnes with a value of $2.553 million.
The shipment of rice via sea route and land borders accumulated to 39,050 tonnes, collecting $16.334 million. More than 7,400 tonnes of rice were exported compared to the previous week’s exports.
Likewise, 15,080 tonnes of broken rice valued at $5.553 million were shipped via sea trade route between 14 and 20 January. The countries where broken rice is exported were China, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, England, Poland, Romania, Spain and Italy.
This week, over 10,350 tonnes and more than 840 tonnes of broken rice were exported via the China-Myanmar border and Myanmar-Thai border respectively, earning $4.034 million. The overall tonnage of broken rice exports amounted to more than 26,280 tonnes worth $9.587 million. It was more than 4,000 tonnes less compared to last week’s broken rice shipment. — TWA/CT
