Team led by DPM MoTC Union Minister makes inspection tours in Sittway

State Administration Council member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San and Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung inspected the cleanup measures conducted by the members of Myanmar Police Force and Myanmar Fire Services Department at the Rakhine State government’s guesthouse together with Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin yesterday.
Then, they went to Lawkananda Pagoda, Shakyamuni Theintaw Pagoda and Sasana Beikman and instructed the pagoda boards of trustees regarding the repairing works.
They also inspected the cleanup activities in the pagoda compound, ration and supplies kept at Sasana Beikman and ordered to distribute to the storm-affected areas.
Then, they oversaw the distribution processes of supplies from the navy ship Mottama.
On arrival at Sittway General Hospital (500-bed), the deputy minister for Construction and the director-general of the Health Department reported on the repairs of the hospital and ongoing work plans and the Deputy Prime Minister and party instructed to renovate the hospital, nursing institute and to reopen the suspended courses.
They also inspected the storage of rice, cooking oil, ration, tarpaulin, distribution of supplies and re-roofing of warehouses at the warehouse of Myanma Port Authority.
They met with the state and township education officers at No 1 BEHS and instructed the need to conduct cleanup and maintenance at the high schools in Sittway Township, school enrollment processes as per the fixed period and other matters.
At noon, they observed the Life Straw mobile water purification machines of the Rural Development Department under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development at the state government office.
These machines will purify the water of Satyoekya Creek between 15 litres to 20 litres per hour and produce water for 100 people a day.
A total of 50 water purifiers will be distributed to the storm-hit areas and another 160 water purifiers that will arrive soon will be also allotted.
They attended the coordination meeting on rehabilitation activities held at the state government office on the same evening.
During the meeting, Deputy Ministers and officials of 12 disaster taskforces reported on the completed and ongoing work plans regarding rehabilitation processes.
Then, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the arrangements of the government to supervise the rehabilitation processes in storm-affected Rakhine State, systematic distribution of relief items and supplies, disease prevention, health awareness programmes and cooperation work between the department and locals. — Tin Tun (IPRD)/KTZH
