Maungtaw border fails to reach trade target in May: MoC

Myanmar’s Maungtaw border failed to achieve its trade target in May, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The cross-border trade value via Myanmar’s Maungtaw border with the neighbouring Bangladesh was targeted to hit US$1.54 million in May yet the actual trade amounted to $0.55 million only, comprising exports worth $0.55 million and import worth $0.001 million.
The main export items are areca nut, coconut, dried plum, fresh ginger, mango, Marian plum, jengkol, rohu, dried fish, hilsa, footwear, instant vermicelli, clothes, Thanaka and jujube jam, while plastic pipe and PVC tanks are imported in May.
The freight cost from Sittway to Maungtaw is K70-110 per viss for up road and for down road, the freight cost is K50-80 per viss. — GNLM/EM
