Fake News Alert : Claim of 12 innocent deaths from Tatmadaw heavy weapons is simply wrong

rakhine fact check29 November 2023
An illegal media is disseminating fake news that 12 people were killed by Tatmadaw heavy weapons fire in Rakhine State, as clarified by the State Administration Council.
The misinformation claimed that 12 civilians, including four women and four men, were killed by Tatmadaw’s heavy weapons in Rakhine State starting from 1 November, citing the AAPP Documentation and Research Team.
The SAC statement also said that in addition to creating and spreading false information in all sectors, these illegal media have used various methods to drive a wedge between the people and the Tatmadaw and to distort the good image of the Tatmadaw in the international arena.
The Tatmadaw strictly adheres to the rules of engagement (ROE) and counter-terrorism operation procedures in fighting the terrorists in order to maintain the stability and peace of the nation, the rule of law and the protection of people’s lives and property. Such a claim is not true and the Tatmadaw never uses heavy weapons against the public residence. Terrorist insurgents are the real culprits who deliberately fired on towns and villages to disturb peace and tranquillity, resulting in the death and injury of some innocent people, the statement added.
