Myanmar fruit traders continue exporting to China despite small price drop

Despite a slight price fall, Myanmar’s fruit export to China is still continuing, according to the market enquiry.

The weather condition in China during these days is a reason for the falling price, said the My My Fruit Wholesaler.

The export prices of honeydew melon and watermelon also dropped a bit a few days ago, but exporters didn’t stop supplying fruit to the Chinese market, according to this wholesaler.

“Exports haven’t stopped. We are not sure about the information from the other side. A few days ago, the market was good. The price was active and rising again. Because there are several trucks on the Mongla route, some are not allowed to enter. It is a traffic jam. So, the price fell a little. With snow falling in China, purchasing is a bit slow if compared to previous days. But, not too bad. It is selling well at a satisfactory rate,” said a wholesaler.

Export prices per kilo of honeydew melon and watermelon were good at 8 yuan and 3 yuan respectively.

“A few days ago, honeydew melon was exported at a high price of 8 yuan per kilo. Now, it is 5 or 6 yuan, depending on the fruit,” said the My My Wholesaler official.
About 16 tonnes are exported in a 12-wheeler and the fruit spoils or gets damaged if it takes about a week to get there due to traffic jams.

“We’ve heard that there is a traffic jam on the highways in China due to a snow storm. Therefore, the price of honeydew melon suddenly dropped. According to the weather forecast in China, the snow storm will continue until 5 February,” the Swe Myanmar Wholesaler said in its Facebook post.
