The price of beans and sesame has been on the rise as a result of foreign demand, according to beans and pulses purchasers.
“Beans price climbs up more than before. It is a result of foreign demand. There are many types of beans and prices of all kinds of beans are getting high, some are getting higher a little and some are getting higher extremely,” said a beans and pulses trader.
Of beans which are on the rise, the price of pigeon peas, matpe and red kidney bean is the highest. A tonne of matpe is K3.4million, a tonne of pigeon peas is K4.2million and a tonne of red kidney bean is more than K4million, according to beans, pulses and sesame companies.
Currently, there are demand from India, China and ASEAN countries and the price of beans and sesame has been getting higher in January this year and still on the rise in February.
“The price was slightly stable in December but climbed up higher in January this year. It is still on the rise,” he said.
Similarly, the price of sesame is also soaring due to domestic and foreign demand, and white sesame and black sesame price is better.
“Sesame price is also good. Sesame has both foreign demand and domestic consumption. The price of white sesame and black sesame is better,” he said.
