In preparation for the 77th Anniversary of Union Day celebrations, students from Bhamo University in Kachin State staged traditional costume shows and cultural displays at the university on 9 February.

The show aimed to strengthen the bond among different ethnic groups of the Union and foster patriotism.

Dr Nay Thwe Kyi, the university’s rector, elaborated: “We have various ethnic students at the university and this show is a testament to the bond among them. In addition to the cultural show, we also arranged a market fair and competitions for painting, essay writing, English and mathematics proficiency skills.”

The students adorned Jingphaw, Kayah, Karen, Chin, Mon, Bamar, Rakhine, Shan, Lisu, Mawshan, and Rawang traditional costumes. The guests voted for their favourite costumes to select winners in the competition.

Winners of the competitions and cultural shows secured prizes. The event also elected the university’s beauty king and queen of the academic year 2023-24. — ASH/NT/TH
