Irrawaddy dolphins spotted in Mandalay-Kyaukmyaung conservation area

The Irrawaddy Dolphin Conservation Group of the Department of Fisheries (Mandalay Region) reports the presence of 17 Irrawaddy dolphins in the Mandalay-Kyaukmyaung marine area of Ayeyawady River, a dedicated conservation zone.
Their team conducts regular observations, and a recent survey on 4 March recorded 17 dolphins living and grazing near Indaung village in Wetlet Township. U Maung Maung Lay, Chairman of the group, stated that they are also encouraging residents to report sightings of any baby dolphins. It’s important to note that this observation coincides with the low water level period of the Ayeyawady River, which attracts both dolphin watchers and traditional netused fishermen in the Mandalay-Kyaukmyaung area.
Similarly, Ayekyun village in Madaya Township, known for its community-based tourism initiatives in Mandalay Region, also reports daily sightings of Irrawaddy dolphins by travellers. — ASH/TKO
