There is a continuous arrival of local and foreign tourists in the Bagan Ancient Cultural Heritage Zone, and it is expected to expand in Thingyan, said U Kyaw Myo Win, director of the Archaeology and National Museum Department (Bagan branch) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture.
From this dry season until now, not only local visitors but also foreigners have been coming to visit Bagan without interruption.
“About 50 foreigners alone arrived just two days ago. Local visitors also entered. Flights are congested a little. Previously, there were two airlines run weekly, and another airline was expanded. Now, these three airlines are not sufficient due to loads of visitors. There are visitors who come by car. Tourist arrival in Bagan has increased. Tourist arrivals were high in previous festive periods, so it is expected to be large in Thingyan too,” he said.
During seasonal festivals- Thadingyut and Tazaungdine, and the December holidays, tourist arrivals mounted, and even hotels were fully booked.
As a result of thriving tourist arrivals, residents can enjoy job opportunities and earn more, said residents.
“Due to the increase in visitor arrivals, residents are now doing well. Local businesses have yet to restore to their previous condition. They are fine,” said Ma Pyae Pyae, a vendor from Bagan.
As of this dry season, the number of local and foreign visitors has swollen again in Myanmar, and no decline has been seen in the travel industry. — MT/ZS
