Forest Dept marks International Day of Forests 2024

The Forest Department organized an event to commemorate the International Day of Forests (IDF) at the Director-General’s office yesterday. Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, U Min Thu, highlighted the significance of IDF in raising awareness about forest conservation in his address.
With this year’s theme being “Forest and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World”, the department is employing innovative approaches such as information technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in its conservation efforts. Moreover, the department has facilitated discussions between young academics and experienced professionals to explore ways to enhance the country’s forestry sector.
Dr Thaung Naing Oo, Director-General of the Forest Department, delivered a keynote presentation on the theme of this year’s IDF and showcased a commemorative video. Following this, a panel discussion involving various sectors, featuring both young academics and seasoned experts, was conducted.
The event was attended by relevant directors-general, directors, professors, and distinguished guests, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange on forest conservation initiatives. — MNA/NT
