Up-train and down-train services on the Yangon-Mawlamyine railway line have been temporarily suspended and tickets sold are being refunded, according to an official at Mawlamyine railway station.

As No. 686 down-train carrying stones was hit by a mine planted by terrorists between Thein Seik and Done Win stations, the railway line has been blocked and officials are working to reopen the line as quickly as possible after clearing the way, it said.

Temporarily suspended services include No.82 Mawlamyine-Yangon down-train and Thingyan special down-train, and No. 81 Yangon-Mawlamyine up-train and Thingyan special up-train departing from Yangon Station, which were scheduled to run on 11 April.

Refunds for upper class and ordinary class tickets for 11 April will be given from 6am to 10am at the daily ticket counter at Mawlamyine Railway Station.

“For cancelled journeys, refunds will be given today for trips cancelled today. If it is a trip for tomorrow, it will be refunded tomorrow. We don’t know the exact date until which trip cancellations will continue. Once the railway repair is completed and in good condition, these services will be resumed on the same day,” said a railway official from Mawlamyine.

Myanma Railways personnel are striving to clear the blockade and resume services as soon as possible, and the station will inform the public about the resumption date of train services in due course, the Mawlamyine railway station said.
