Action taken against over 10,000 vehicles for violation of traffic rules

The Expressway Police reported that a total of 10,840 vehicles that violated traffic rules faced enforcement action during the nine months from January to September 2023. These cases included 9,345 instances of speeding and 1,495 instances of failure to wear a seatbelt.
On the Yangon-Mandalay expressway, private cars are limited to a speed of 100 kilometres per hour and passenger highway vehicles are limited to 90 kilometres per hour. Enforcement against speeding vehicles was carried out not only through inspections but also with the help of 11 sets of speed testing equipment.
During the period from January to August, a total of 106 traffic accidents resulted in 63 fatalities and 161 injuries on the expressway. — TWA/MKKS
