ASEAN U-22 Championship to be held in February next year

LOCAL NEWS

The ASEAN Football Federation will host ASEAN U-22 Championship in 2022. The competition will be held from 14 to 26 February 2022 in Cambodia.
This is the third time that the ASEAN Football Federation has organized the youth tournament in preparation for the SEA Games. The ASEAN Football Federation hosted the first U-23 tournament in 2005 and changed the U-22 version in 2019.
Thailand team has won the U-23 tournament in 2005 and the Indonesian team won the new version of the tourney in 2019.
Cambodia has hosted the tournament twice in a row and also hosted the 2019 Games.
As the run-up to the SEA Games is underway, all Southeast Asian teams are likely to compete in the youth tourney, with the upcoming SEA Games scheduled for May more than two months in advance. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ASEAN Football Federation had to cancel nearly all the annual competitions in 2020, and only the ASEAN Futsal Club Championship was held, and the Suzuki Cup will be held later this year.
Next year, all competitions are scheduled to be held as usual, and the first will be the ASEAN U-22 Championship, ASEAN football authorities said. —Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
