It is a piece of good news not only for ethnics residing in Naga Self-Administered Zone but for all ethnic people across the nation, saying that the Head of State on his tour of the Naga region in recent days pledged to complete the construction of the Chindwin Bridge (Htamathi) as well as placing of asphalt on the road to Htamathi before the Naga Traditional New Year Festival to be held in 2025.
Everybody knows the Naga region lags development behind other regions and states. So, their living standard cannot shoulder those from other areas. As they live in hilly regions, they face difficulties in road transportation. If their region is facilitated with smooth transport similar to other regions, they will have a wider scope of knowledge on how to develop their regions.
The Head of State also gave a promise to upgrade the earthen road linking Leshi and Lahe at the foot of Mount Saramati, adding a plan to upgrade the sports ground in Lahe to be a stadium equipped with stands and tracks in the region. Indeed, it is the sound of the bell rung for all that a plan is underway to improve the sports standard of the Naga region.
Moreover, the Head of State disclosed his plan to generate hydropower in damming creeks and rivers to improve the lifestyle of local ethnics as well as to develop manufacturing industries. Significantly, a plan is underway to implement the project to establish a basic education high school which will teach students about agriculture, livestock breeding and mechanical techniques in the Naga region as of improving the education sector of the local people.
Currently, the Naga region faces insufficiency of food because of difficulties to expand the sown acreage of paddy fields. As such, local ethnic people are to strive for increasing per-acre yield of paddy on the highland farmlands in the hilly areas in terrace forms without using the traditional cultivation methods while growing konjac to be supplied as food for the people.
Moreover, local authorities need to emphasize the cultivation of tea and coffee to become trademarks of the Naga region in the market in addition to the production of orange and other crops. If local ethnics are dutiful for extended production of crops and products, the Union government is ready to provide assistance for them to have greater development.
