Chickpea growers from ChaungU catch better prices in harvest season

There are over 30,000 acres of winter chickpea plantation in ChaungU Township.

The chickpea growers from ChaungU township in the Sagaing region are earning better prices in the chickpea harvest season, it is learnt.
There are over 30,000 acres of winter chickpea plantation in ChaungU Township. Now, the early cultivated chickpea are started harvesting and sold at K45,000 per basket to the market.
“Each acre of chickpea can yield about 22 baskets. The price per basket of chickpea is K45,000. Now, the chickpea farmers are joyful due to a good price this year, said a farmer from Nga Lone Tin village-tract.
Chickpea is grown in 27 village-tracts such as Nga Lone Tin, Wa Yar, Ma Gyi Gwa and Thone Pan Hla village-tracts. The chickpea is yielding abundantly this year,” said Daw Khin Myat Myat Oo, the head of ChaungU township Agriculture Department.
“The department is providing the high-quality seeds to farmers for accessing high-quality chickpea. The growers are also allowed to use only Boron and Borax to help germ-free and yield good quality crops. Likewise, the department staff are sharing the method that how to make natural antibiotics,” she clarified. — Lu Lay/GNLM
