Confiscation of illegal items: Timbers, foodstuffs, consumer goods, industrial materials and vehicles

The combined on-duty teams under the supervision of the Customs Department conducted inspections on 19 and 22 October and nabbed an ownerless Auman tractor head with a trailer (approximately worth K45 million), that was parked near the Myanmar-China border friendship cave (Myanmar side) at the Kanpaiti border trade, carrying 72,000 bottles of Mikailo beer worth K60 million). Two kinds of goods worth K45.4 million, including 85 Relx e-cigarette devices (made in China) piled up by the side of a detour near Panson village, at the Yepu permanent checkpoint, a Chenglong tractor head with a trailer (approximately worth K70 million), headed to Yangon from Myawady, carrying 2,250 Camel motorcycle tubes worth K11.25 million that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID), at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint and 4,000 cat feedstuffs worth K3.1 million that exceeded the quantity mentioned in the ID from a vehicle at the Myawady Trade Zone. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
On 21 and 23 October, the on-duty teams seized 2.760 tonnes of illegal teak, 1.852 tonnes of other timbers worth K2,241,864 in Pathein district, 1.762 tonnes of illegal other timbers worth K123,354 in Pyapon district and an unregistered Honda Civic car (estimated value of K4 million) in Pathein township. The action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export and Import Law.
The combined teams nabbed 400 boxes of plant tonic (made in China) worth K32 million that were piled up by the side of road near Namkhon village beyond the Asia World Tollgate on 22 October and 32.601 tonnes of illegal other timbers worth K21,417,716 in Monywa township and an unregistered Yinxing motorbike (approximately worth K150,000) in the Industrial Zone Ward of Monywa township on 23 October. The action was taken under Customs procedures, the Forest Law and the Export and Import Law.
A total of 20 arrests were made on 19,21,22 and 23 October, with an estimated value of over K294 million, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
