Cooperate with relevant ministry in census enumeration

Data in an enumeration of the census is of great importance for all countries. The correct and accurate census proves the smooth process and success of many country issues. As such, it is necessary to store the data on census and research records for functions of immigration and population.
Governments in successive eras, including British colonialists, have enumerated the census of Myanmar since 1872. During the period from 1881 to 1942, censuses were collected once a decade. There were 7.7 million population in Myanmar mentioned in the census of 1891.
In Myanmar’s monarchical era, Myanmar’s kings assessed the country’s population based on the revenue surveys, but they did not manage the enumeration of the census. In the British colonial era, the relevant government emphasized the collection of the census population.
After Myanmar had regained its Independence, the government enumerated census in 252 townships in 1953 and more than 2,000 village-tracts in 1954. The complete censuses were collected in 1973 and 1983.
After that, Myanmar could not conduct the enumeration of the census anymore. But in 2014, the census was enumerated across the nation. In 2024, one more time of collecting population must be done. Hence, the relevant ministry adopted the plan to list the census population and households throughout the nation. In this regard, the ministry earmarked some 51 months to collect the census from October 2021 to December 2024 under the four census tasks.
In its tenure, the government of the State Administration Council is striving to collecti censuses not only in urban but in rural areas. Hence, the central census commission and the central census committee were formed to manage and coordinating the census measures with correct leadership.
The population census can bring the advantages of adopting the policy to harmoniously develop the State’s social, economic and management measures and implement the projects for the development of the State by using the population data to be obtained from the censuses. Currently, the census is reliable not only for population data but for social-economic measures such as education, health, employment, rate of giving birth, death rate, older persons, disabled, migration and households.

Only when any country can get correct and accurate data on the population will it benefit the State and the people. That is why all the people should cooperate with the relevant ministry in successfully enumerating the population census and households across the nation.
