Thet National Day observed in Maungtaw

For the first time, the National Day of the Thet ethnic community was observed at 8:00 am on 1 May in the 4th-mile ward in Magyigon village in Maungtaw township of Rakhine State.
Firstly, the ceremony was performed with traditional ethnic music and dance, and the message from the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs was read by the Thet Literature and Cultural Association secretary U Oo Shwe.
Afterwards, donated funds for the Thet National Day celebration were handed over to officials, and Township administrator U Kan Tun Aung gave a speech.
In addition, Sayadaw U Nyanasettha of Kanan area, Bamouk Township, Sagaing Region, delivered a speech on behalf of the Kanan ethnic people and the Patron of Thet Ethnic Literature and Culture Association U Hla Tun Kyaw clarified the history of Thet National Day. Thet Ethnic Literature and Culture Association Chairman U Ba Oo explained the activities and goals of Thet Ethnic Literature and Culture Association.
Afterwards, prizes were awarded to the types of traditional competitions, respectively, and the flag commemorating Thet National Day was presented to the officials.
Deputy District Administrator U Naing Aye, Township Administration Body Chairman U Kan Tun Aung, members of the Rakhine ethnic group, monks and people totalling about 300 participated in the Thet National Day celebration. — Thet Lwin Soe (IPRD)/GNLM
