Daungmyu Creek landslide protection project to be completed by mid-March

The Daungmyu Creek landslide protection project in Kawlin Township, Sagaing Region will be completed by mid-March, it is learnt.
“The project is being carried out spending over K290 million from the Union capital fund in the 2021-2022FY. As part of the project, the construction of stone slabs and steel basket retaining wall and slabs retaining wall based on the bored pile is undertaken in Kawlin and Wuntho townships. More than 20 per cent of the project has been completed so far. Field inspections are also being conducted to ensure that landslide protection project is completed in time,” said U Htet Zaw Oo, Assistant Director of the Sagaing Region Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems.
For the Daungmyu Creek landslide protection project, the construction of slabs retaining wall based on bored pile measuring 440 feet in Kwinttaung village, Kawlin township and steel basket retaining wall measuring 510 feet in Mankyigon village in Wuntho township is being developed. Those projects will be completed by 20 March 2022.
In the financial year 2021-22, the winning bidders started implementing those projects regarding the riverbank landslide protection in the last week of December 2021 in Kawlin and Wuntho townships, spending K295.431 million of the region budgets.
Sagaing Region Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems is conducting Chindwin River, Mu River and Ayeyawady River landslide protection projects in Phaungpyin, Kalewa, Kani, Myinmu, Pinlebu, Shwebo and Taze townships spending Union and region funds. — Lu Lay/GNLM
