Rivers that are called main arteries and tributaries as well as a lot of creeks are flowing across the nation from the north to the south and from the east to the west and vice versa.
The water area such as rivers, creeks and lakes improves climatic conditions of respective areas, reducing the heat of the atmosphere and contributing to greening environs in addition to improving the living standard of the people with thriving seasonal, perennial and shade crops and plants.
Myanmar is teeming with small and large rivers and creeks possessing some 1,168 cubic metres volume of freshwater on a yearly basis. Such a passion for water in the nation accounts for 1.7 per cent of the world and 8.8 per cent in all Asian countries.
Generally, water sources including rivers and creeks in the inland area are of fresh water. It is renewable water. Myanmar also possesses 492 cubic metres volume of underground water. Both underground and above-ground freshwater are invaluable for Myanmar as these water sources give food and drinking water to the people for so many long times.
Since the time of the monarchical era, Myanmar has been building dams and reservoirs in order to store drinking water and agricultural water as well as to prevent flooding. Even though Myanmar is standing in the 14th position in the world’s renewable freshwater possessing countries, people from some parts of the country are still facing shortages of drinking water and some farmlands, insufficiency of agricultural water.
Hence, the task to supply water to the people is of importance in the country. It is necessary to seek the best way for storing the rainwater and freshwater from various water sources so as to supply them to the people whenever they need them.

All the people wherever they live need to take care of efficient consumption of freshwater. The citizens living not only in urban but in rural areas should not waste water sources. The freshwater whatever they consume must be efficient because the storage process of water costs a lot. If they waste the water in consumption, it means wasting the State fund.

The capability of utilizing freshwater will help the country increase agricultural produce and livestock products. The more production increases, the more national income rises. The State fund which comes from the national income will shape and modernize the country. As such, the efficient use of freshwater without any forms of waste is responsible for the entire people.
