False claims circulate regarding political prisoners’ detention and prison riot

Fabricated news has been circulating, claiming that, according to a statement from the All Myanmar Political Prisoners Network, 28 political prisoners who were sentenced to long-term prison terms for political crimes were kept in shackles at custody for almost two years.
Regarding the fabricated news, an official from the relevant prison countered by saying, “Twenty-eight prisoners took the prison officials as hostages and tried to escape in a violent riot, so they were placed in solitary confinement, shackled, and prosecuted under the Prison Act. They have been freed from shackle after completion of the case.” Reports indicate that media outlets supporting terrorists and spreading malicious news are fabricating and circulating false information, misleading the public about the Correctional Department and the staff doing their duties under the Prison Act. — MNA/TKO
