Financial assistance allocated for pregnant women, under-2 children

Eligible pregnant women and mothers of children under the age of two will receive cash assistance for three successive months through the social protection programme, according to the Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.
The task will enable pregnant women and children under two years from seven regions to access adequate nutrition, brain and body development. Starting 2023-2024FY, the data collection was conducted and they will receive K15,000 for three successive months in August and September.
The cash assistance will be provided to seven regions – Chin State, Rakhine State, Naga Self-administered Zone, Kayin State, Kayah State, Shan State and Ayeyawady Region by the region and state Social Welfare Departments.
The remaining eligible people can register at their respective townships’ and wards’ administrative offices and can contact Hot Line 1566.
In Myanmar, August, Nutrition Promotion Month is composed of a specific theme each week: World Breastfeeding Week; Under-five children and school children nutrition promotion week; Pregnant mother and lactating mother nutrition promotion week and Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) elimination week.
“Breast milk is the best food for the newborn. It is also the best nutrition for babies for the first six months of life. They should be given nutritious complementary foods and continue breastfeeding up to the age of two years,” said Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win at the ceremony to mark the World Breastfeeding Week and Nutrition Promotion Week held on 4 August. — TWA/KTZH
