The family members of foreign embassies in Yangon, led by Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Jong Ho Bom, participated in Myanmar’s traditional water festival at Yangon Mayor’s Maha Thingyan Pandal with the relevant departmental officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
First, ambassadors, embassy staff and family members were welcomed by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay, and the Thingyan choral dancers sprinkled water on them with Eugenia sprigs.
The ethnic traditional culture groups, Mother’s Group, artistes, members of the Myanmar Music Association and Myanmar Thabin Artistes Association performed the Bagan era dance and Zaw Gyi puppet dance.
After the entertainment, the Yangon Region chief minister, the mayor and the DPRK ambassador gave cash awards to performers and splashed water on them.
Officials sang Myanmar classic songs, played water and participated in the Walking Thingyan event along the Maha Bandoola Park Street. The Yangon Mayor’s Maha Thingyan Pandal hosted many revellers on the Akyat day of the Thingyan festival. — Ko Thike/GNLM
