Government of Myanmar donates medicines and medical supplies to Government of Sri Lanka

Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win hands over the government-donated medicices and medical supplies to the Sri Lankan ambassador yesterday in Yangon.

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar Mr JMJP Bandara, Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein and officials attended the handover ceremony of medicines and medical supplies donated by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, at the meeting hall of Medical Research Department, Yangon yesterday.
At the ceremony, Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win said that the donation of medicines and medical supplies worth over $1.48 million was gladly made by Myanmar. The donation of rice weighing 1,000 tonnes to Sri Lanka was also made on 2 September 2022 under the guidance of the State Administration Council Chairman. Myanmar and Sri Lanka, with the same religion and cultural practices, have a good relationship and these donations are the symbol of the friendship between the two countries. As the saying goes “Sharing is caring”, Myanmar hopes that it will be able to contribute to covid-19 epidemic prevention and control treatment activities, public healthcare activities, and social and business rehabilitation activities of Sri Lanka, and support the friendship between the two countries, the Union minister added.
Afterwards, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar expressed his gratitude, on behalf of the Sri Lankan government and citizens, for the donations of medicines and medical supplies under the supervision of State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. He also mentioned his appreciation for the previous rice donations from Myanmar in 2017 and September 2022 which were the time of unexpected economic challenges in Sri Lanka.
Next, the Union minister handed over the documents relating to the donated items to the Sri Lankan ambassador, and the Sri Lankan ambassador returned the letter of appreciation to the Union minister.
It is reported that the medicines and medical supplies donated to Sri Lanka are jointly donated by the Ministry of Health and the Myanmar Chamber of Commerce for Pharmaceutical & Medical Device (MCCPMD) under the guidance of the SAC, and are valued at more than US$1.48 million. — MNA
