Green gram, pigeon pea prices drop within one week

In the local bean market, the prices of beans including the green gram and pigeon pea drop within one week, according to data from the Bayintnaung Wholesale Market on 9 May.
On 6 May, it was K47,140 per basket of green gram and K44,212 per basket of pigeon pea, while the price of green gram was K46,785 per basket and the pigeon pea K44,130 per basket on 9 May.
“The price of green gram dropped to K355 per basket, while the pigeon pea by K82 per basket during one week. The price of chickpeas is high. The bean season is over. They were left only in the hand of merchants. The bean prices will keep declining,” said Ko Oo, a bean merchant.
The bean prices have fallen since the exchange rate was fixed at K1,850 per dollar.
According to the Bayintnaung Wholesale Centre, the price of mung bean was between K2,080 and K2,670 per viss, between K3,215 and K4,250 per viss of lablab bean and between K1,750 and K1,870 per viss of black-eyed peas.
The beans are mostly grown in Ayeyawady, Bago, Magway and Mandalay regions. More than 142,000 tonnes of pulses were exported in April amounting to $830.625 million from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, according to the ministry. — TWA/GNLM
