Illegal teak, animals, and foodstuffs seized

Officials confiscate illegal teak logs.

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illicit trade under the law.
On 25 April, an inspection team led by the Myanmar Police Force made inspections under management of the Sagaing Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force.
During the inspection, nine illegally imported cattle in Kalay Township (estimated at K9,700,000) were seized. The action was taken under the Animal Health and Livestock Development Law.
Similarly, a combined inspection team led by the Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted inspections in Phyu and Ottwin townships, Bago Region and 4.6824 tonnes of illegal timber (estimated at K652,120) were seized. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, under the management of the Customs Department, a combined inspection team on duty at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint of Mon State conducted inspections.
Food items and clothes (estimated value of K8,343,000) on two passenger vehicles without official documents and Jean trousers (approximately K4,000,000) carried by one 22-wheeler vehicle were seized. The action was taken under the Customs Law.
As a result, seven arrests (estimated at K22,695,120) were made on 25 April, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. —MNA
