SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Chairman of the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force, an inspection team led by Police Force made inspections on 11 June.
They seized an unregistered Alphard car worth K2 million in Pyay township and effective action was prosecuted under the Import and Export Law.
On 14 June, the Forest Department inspection team confiscated a total of 2.0816 tonnes of illegal timbers at an estimated value of K1,004,656 in the forest reserve of Toungoo District and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, on 12 June, mobile phone accessories and clothes without official documents worth K4,215,000, from a Nissan AD van worth K9 million heading from Muse to Mandalay at the 16th-mile checkpoint. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, inspections were carried out at the Myanmar Industrial Port Container Terminal Checkpoint under the management of the Customs Department on 13 June.
A port on-duty inspection team captured K3.7 million worth of industrial raw materials which were not mentioned in the import declaration ID and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, the on-duty team from the Mayanchaung Permeant checkpoint under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force conducted inspections.
Foodstuffs and consumer goods that showed no official documents at approximately K2,712,057 were seized from a passenger bus heading from Myawady to Toungoo and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, a combined team conducted inspections at the 4-mile combined checkpoint under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force in Shan State.
Seventy cartons of Mevius cigarettes and foodstuffs at an estimated value of K8.85 million were captured from a Zhong Tong bus worth K100 million on 13 June. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, 200 cartons of toys and foodstuffs (approximately K68,598,000) were confiscated under the management of the Anti-Trafficking Task Force in Sagaing Township on 14 June and the action was prosecuted under the Import and Export Law.
Therefore, 12 arrests (estimated at K200,079,713) were made on four consecutive days from 11 to 14 June, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
