Red potatoes produced from Kachin State have received many orders from Thailand, according to red potato traders from Mohnyin township.
“As an overseas market, there are many orders from Thailand this year. Orders come from Myawady-Thailand. There were orders last year, but more have been purchased this year. So it means the red potato sale is better in overseas market,” said a red potato trader from Mohnyin township, Kachin State.
The red potato is called Myanmar potato, and its colour is pink. It is healthy. It is grown mainly in Kachin State.
In the local market, red potato sales have been increasing, too.
“The red potato sale has been good in the local market too. It is harvested in two batches. Crops harvested in the first batch are nearly out of stock. The next batch will be harvested again after the month of Tabaung,” said a grower.
Red potato is not as big as Chinese potato and can be eaten by making a salad, fried, or pounded.
The wholesale price per viss of mixed small and big-sized red potatoes is from K2,500 to K2,700 while the price per viss of small-sized red potatoes is around K2,500 and big-sized red potatoes is around K3,000, according to Mohnyin red potato market. — Thit Taw/ZS/ED
